They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but before it’s taken, it pays to ask some questions. Let’s face it: life’s special moments deserve to be captured in their very best light, so knowing the right questions to ask of a photographer beforehand will help ensure you don’t get any unhappy surprises afterwards.
Learn about the photographer's style. Does the photographer’s portfolio show examples of the style you’re looking for —such as an artistic, photojournalistic, or natural look? Are you looking for more posed, formal and traditional photos or candid ones?
Get to know their personality. A client should determine whether or not their personalities mesh with the photographer/s and whether or not they feel completely comfortable with the photographer.
Timetable: What are the turnaround times for delivery of images/products? Does the photographer the photo editing or are the photos sent out for processing?
Discuss the fine print. Ask a photographer if they have a proper business license and if they carry professional liability insurance.
Price: Does the photographer’s fees fit into your budget?
Testimonials: Does the photographer have a good portfolio and references from other clients to show you?
